1. North Star Vision

Intervention Objective

Define a clear and compelling future vision of the business that exploits the potential of digital technology.

Why is this important?

A critical success factor of any change initiative is to know where you want to get to and why; a vision of success, a "North Star". This vision must be clear and easy to visualise for employees. It must generate excitement and a feeling of urgency for change. It must be ambitious yet also realistic in the context of the business's internal and external environment. Poorly defined aspirations are vague, uninspiring or have been formulated in isolation from the overall business strategy.

Some questions to be addressed

How is digital already transforming or disrupting the markets in which we operate?

In what innovative ways can digital re-imagine or transform our business?

Can we invent new business models by leveraging digital possibilities?

How can digital transform the customer experience?

How will we re-invent and automate the operational processes?

What are the most important and/or urgent changes?

What is the compelling narrative for our aspiration?

Approach

The definition of a North Star Vision requires:

  • Broad and positive engagement with senior stakeholders across the business in order to secure completeness of vision and ensure collective commitment from organization leadership.

  • Good insight of the market in which the business operates, the opportunities for digitalization, and the leading digital practices of direct competitors and other relevant leading companies.

  • General knowledge of digital and how digital technology can transform business models, customer engagement/experience and business operations.

The intervention is executed in three phases:
